O’s Notes: This gem was recorded in 1962, mastered in 1998 when this was released. It is a showcase for violinist Joe Kennedy who sparkles throughout the set. Back in the early 1960s, jazz violin was a rare occurrence. Toots Thielemans shows up here primarily playing guitar. But he also adds harmonica, whistling and toe tapping to the mix. We liked “Opticas”, both Takes of “You Leave Me Breathless”, and “Be Sure” among many great tunes. This is a retro visit that pays dividends.
