O’s Notes: Cuban pianist Fabian Almazan makes music that is rich with texture. He combines elements of Latin and classical music again defying genre classification on“Alcanza. This release is more of a movement that is energetic and dynamic with lots of adventure that places the listener in a symphonic hall. Camila Meza adds voice (and guitar) on several selections and the rich string quartet softens the mood with bassist Linda Oh and drummer Henry Cole anchoring the foundation. The music is ripe with elements of grandeur and mystery.
