O’s Notes: Composer and pianist Zaccai Curtis and his brother, bassist Luques, are part of The Curtis Brothers Band with trumpeter Brian Lynch, alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, and drummer Ralph Peterson. They do well featuring Zaccai’s fresh, original compositions, inspired by Art Blakey’s famous bands. Lynch, Harrison and Peterson serve as mentors to the young brothers and “The Professor”, “Chief” and “Sensei” are tribute tunes to each of them respectively. Algorithm shows the continued maturation of The Curtis Brothers, a fine effort.
