O’s Notes: This is a star-studded lineup including Paul Jackson Jr. (g), Abraham Laboriel (b) and Vinnie Colaiuta (d) featuring Swiss vocalist Vlada. He started the project back in 2003 but has come a long way since it’s release in 2010. On the journey, he found love, himself and a greater understanding of his religion. The focus of the album is on his ultimate realization of God’s presence as the guiding light. The result is a strong message backed by great music. We liked the combination of funky beats and vocal harmonies on “Never Changing” and “Rejoice!” featuring Kirk Whalum (sax); the high energy of “Hide & Seek”; “Desert Moment” with Anja Lehmann leading the vocals; and “Hold On To You” featuring Take 6. These are just a few examples of the soulful groove that resonates through 14 selections. Vlada wrote all or parts of the entire set and it is a winner!
