O’s Notes: Rick was having a bit of writer’s block when he started composing the music for All It Takes. Then he employed co producer Philippe Suisse, a very wise decision. They collaborated for 70% of the material and it is a solid core! Jeff Lorber (keyboards) collaborated on “Christiane” a spunky ballad dedicated to Rick’s wife. Marc Antoine (g), Louis Conte (perc), Dwight Sills (g), Richard Elliot (sax) and Ricky Lawson (d) are among the talented musicians who contribute their talents. There is a good balance of slow and fast tunes. “She’s The One”, “Puerto Allegre Jam” and “Berlin” are highlights. We also enjoyed the mellow dedication to Freddie Hubbard, “Freddie Was Here”.
