O’s Notes: Drummer George Johnson leads an all-star cast of musicians playing eleven jazz classics revved up to a hot bop groove. Charles Earland mans the B3 and Jon Faddis play trumpet on a live version of “Morgan” that opens the set. They slow down just a bit on “Sleepy” with Terall Stafford (t), Wycliff Gordon (tb) and Ed Wiley (ts) leading the melody. Wynton Marsalis (t) makes and appearance on “Birdlike” with Charles Fambrough on bass. Those are few a few of the tunes and stars in this sea of big names and big sounds.
