O’s Notes: Guitarist, keyboardist, composer, producer and bandleader Chieli Minucci is the genius behind Special EFX. Chieli’s All Stars are Jerry Brooks (b), David Mann (sax, fl), Tatum Greenblatt (t, flugelhorn), Mike Davis (tb) and Lin Rountree (t). Special guest stars are plentiful with Eric Marienthal soloing on “Hanky Panky Boys”, Maysa Leak singing on “Little Wing” with Gerald Veasley on bass, and pianists Leo Tizer and Jay Rowe surfacing on “Kampala”. We also enjoyed “Great Escape, Part 2” extending the legacy of one of the finest American contemporary jazz bands.
