O’s Notes: This live performance was recorded at Maybeck in Berkeley, CA during 1994. It features a trio of Tim Hauf (b), Gaylord Birch (d) and leader Calvin Keys on guitar. Calvin is a consummate jazz guitarist with good techniques and warm tones. He has recorded with many of the best jazz musicians; Carmen McRae, Jack McDuff and Joe Henderson to name a few. There are a dozen standards spread over 2 CDs. This allows space for improvisation and engagement of the small but appreciative audience. It’s good music for a special session.
