O’s Notes: Anna’s Dollhouse is the story of an incredibly determined woman, who married to sustain religious beliefs and remained in a difficult union for 60 years before turning to music late in life for true gratification. Composer, saxophonist Benjamin Koppel chronicles her life, the pains, agony and ultimate pleasure over nine compositions. Vocalist Caecilie Norby stands out in front of a fine band that includes Kenny Werner (p), Johannes Weidenmueller (b), Peter Erskine (d) and leader Koppel. “Mes Quatre Hercules” and “Sketches of Life and Death” are among the best in a deeply passionate set.
