O’s Notes: Amanda Ekery is a vocalist, composer and bandleader on Arabe, a celebration of her Syrian, Mexican roots with songs that visit her ancestry. Andrew Boudreau (p, accordion), Emily Johnson-Erday (Mandolin), Jhoely Garay (g), Hannah Marks (b), and Jess Tsang (perc) join her touching a variety of contemporary jazz styles. There are songs ranging from dark ballads like the opener, to more adventurous tunes like “Yenobak Eih“, “Without You”, the free, spontaneous “Double Faced”, and the pop laced “Evil Eye”.
