O’s Notes: Trombonist and composer Peter Nelson presents us with a musical narrative based on his battle with focal dystonia, a disease that causes involuntary muscle contractions that cause repetitive or twisting movements. The compositions trace his journey and mental anguish as he has survived an illness that is never fully cured. He forms several band configurations with vocalist Alec Barchini, Nikara Warren (vibes), trumpeter Josh Lawrence, Hailey Niswanger (sax), Yuma Uesaka (cl), Willerm Delisfort (p), Raviv Markovitz (b) and Itay Marchi (d). Nelson’s tone is rich and full of emotion matching his journey touching fear, unfamiliarity, realization, peace and ultimately harmony.
