O’s Notes: Free jazz guitarist, oudist Gordon Grdina presents Ash, the third album with his Nomad Trio including pianist Matt Mitchell and drummer Jim Black. This is a studio recording with six well developed originals with Grdina alternating between oud and guitar. We liked the raging, free, fusion on “Simultanism”, followed by “Huzam” opening with an excellent oud solo. We also enjoyed “Ejdeha” and the percussion heavy title track.
