O’s Notes: This is fresh music on the contemporary scene. Phase II has a smooth funky sound that will warm your spirit on songs like “Pieces To A Puzzle”. They vary the pace with fast, slow – “Ione’s Theme”, and mid-tempo grooves like “D’s Groove”. They also drop in a few vocals, notably “Me & You” featuring Sha and a twist of Latin on “A Sunday Samba” featuring guitarist David Prince. “Smooth As Silk was Kevin ‘Bam Bam’ Sykes’s (b) showcase along with Ron Palmore on sax. Patrick Cooper plays the organ on the funky “Backtalk” with Derek ‘Redfootz’ Freeman (d) holding the beat together. These guys pack a strong punch and deliver a memorable program with a lot of bite. We anxiously await their next act.
