O’s Notes: Puerto Rican bassist, bandleader Alex “Apolo” Ayala takes center stage on Bámbula, his debut recording, a tribute to his identity, heritage and native music. There is excellent drum & percussion work on “Las Caras Linda’s” by Nelson Mateo Gonzalez and Fernando Garcia. Ivan Renta adds sax with vocals from Anna Louise Andersson on “Café y Bomba” softening the bottom-heavy session.
