O’s Notes: The Cookers were born as a band in 2007 with a tribute to the late Freddie Hubbard. Believe is their third recording as a unit. The members are elder jazz statesmen from 67 to 76 years old. All remain sharp with their attack. They are: Billy Harper (ts), Eddie Henderson (t), David Weiss (t), Craig Handy (as), George Cables (p), Cecil McBee (b) and Billy Hart (d). While they are still mellow on the ballads we prefer the songs where they cook!
