O’s Notes: Bessarabian Breakdown suggests a celebratory collection of Klezmer music. It is a bit more than that however as the band started swinging on “And The Angels Sing”, then moved into a traditional Caribbean groove on “Deacarga Gitano”. The bulk of the selections are true to the title including the funky “Sadegurer Chusidl” and “Bb Freylekhs”. But the infusion of calypso on “Cuando El Rey Nimrod” and hard swing on “Dark Eyes” kept us engaged and entertained throughout the session. Hats off to Guttmann for a job well done.
