O’s Notes: This is a lively session that captured our attention immediately on “The Coupe” with Siebels working the B3 hard! He has strong support from Gordon Goodwin’s Phat Band, a tight large ensemble that has always impressed us. The marriage with Dave’s Hammond leads to a funky vibe than works well. Eric Marienthal (sax) joins the party for a couple of tunes adding butter to the mix. Siebels composed 7 of the 10 selections with cool covers of “Girl Talk”, “I Wish” and “The Cat”. The pace slows down during the set but the brass is always crisp and fluid. We preferred the high-energy tracks and the bounce of “Sort Of Like A Samba”.
