O’s Notes: Papa mans the B3 and invites sons Joey (keyboards) and John Jr. (g) to join him. Mike Boone (b) and Byron Landham (d) keep the beats while Jerry Weldon dances on sax. We enjoyed Jerry’s work on “Riders On The Storm” and “Too Young To Go Steady”. Jr. is burning on “Maricopa” and Papa cooks on “Big Shot”, one of four original in the eight-song session. This is a great instrumental blues club set, no nonsense, just the mission at hand.
