O’s Notes: If you haven’t seen Bird, the movie, check it out at your local video store or better yet, buy your own copy. Aside from chronicling the life of jazz legend, saxophonist, Charlie Parker, the music is great. Of course all of Parker’s work is great but up until now, none as well recorded as these. Sony was able to isolate many of Bird’s original tracks and allow Monty Alexander (p), Ray Brown (b) and John Guerin (d) to accompany him. It’s the only stereo recording with Parker and although it is simulated, it is very well done.
