O’s Notes: This is now a well-established formula for contemporary Latin jazz. Vibraphonist Dave Samuels leads the charge with a combination of originals and covers. They include trumpet from either Ray Vega or Randy Brecker on this set. The combinations of marimba with trumpet works well across rumba, cha-cha and samba. We particularly liked “Tell Me A Bedtime Story”, “Weird Nightmare” and the syncopated beats of “Blue”.
