O’s Notes: This is a strong “4” as Patches blends a series of mostly mellow tunes like “Bedtime Story” and “Overjoyed” with upbeat, funky tracks like “Congo Square”. They also add a little hip-hop with lots of deep bass on “Blow”. Stewart’s trumpet is smoky cool all the way and the beats are tight, funky and well calibrated courtesy of producer Marcus Miller who plays bass and a multitude of other instruments.
