O’s Notes: Trumpeter Orbert Davis steps into the main stream with a strong statement. He wrote most of the ten compositions and plays them with a sense of confidence that can’t be ignored! There is the subtle blue funk of the band behind his understated yet dazzling leads on “The Real Deal” and the contrast of the warm melodic notes on “Dear D’Lana”, a ballad with a touch of bolero. And they cap it with the title track and “Life Is Short” featuring rich vocals from Dee Alexander.
