O’s Notes: Chicago-based trumpeter Markus Rutz pays homage to forebears, mentors, and his close-knit circle with his original 2-disc Blueprints series. Figure One: Frameworks is the first including varied tempos, rich textures, and relaxing ballads. Rutz engages a strong team including saxophonist Brice Winston, guitarist Matt Gold, bassist Marcos Varela and pianist Adrian Ruiz. He opens attributing his mother as a guiding light on “The Compass” shifting to warmth on “Very Marie” and with excellent trades on “Limbo” and again on the bouncy “September in the Rain”.
