O’s Notes: Figure Two: New Designs is more of Rutz’s own creative juices vs the influenced and inside red rhythms of Figure One. He combines six originals with threes classics to arrive at a well-balanced, engaging session. He uses the same team with equally good results. We enjoyed the bossa nova beat of “A Cidade do Vento” and the cool groove set by bassist Marcos Varela on “The Mucicianer” in a rewarding session that places Markus in the thick of today’s jazz scene.
