O’s Notes: This is a classic session recorded Spring, 1964. Leader Bob Brookmeyer (tb) wrote 4 of the 11 songs and he argued with producer Teo Macero over the inclusion of each one of them! Ted wanted a more commercial album of standards. Stan Getz (sax) does an excellent job on “Misty”, with Gary Burton (vibes) following on “The Wrinkle”. Herbie Hancock (p), Ron Carter (b) and Elvin Jones (d) are the remaining friends with Tony Bennett also singing a couple of tunes! They do well despite the studio bickering as overall musicianship prevailed. It serves as on of the best collaborations between Getz and Brookmeyer.
