O’s Notes: Indiana residents, singer Janiece Jaffe and pianist Monika Herzig joined forces during the pandemic to focus on some of the best songs of Joni Mitchell. Core support comes from Jeremy Allen (b), Greg Ward (sax) and Cassius Goens (d). Some of Herzig’s jazzy arrangements of Mitchell’s songs may evade the ear of classic pop fans but the lyrics reign supreme with insightful relevance still, today! “River”, “My Old Man” and “Don’t Interrupt The Sorrow” are among the best. Both Sides of Joni proves to be a set of timeless messages, and introduced to new generations and new genres, thank you.
