O’s Notes: Polished session saxophonist Brian Scanlon comes out as a leader, composer and producer for this strong contemporary jazz set. He has a swinging, upbeat rhythm section including Peter Erskine (d), Trey Henry (b) and Joey De Leon (perc) along with a cadre of guitarists and two pianists for support. Up front Scanlon dominates the action with occasional vibrant solos from other band members. The opening title track sets the stage for an upbeat encounter but they also take it down a notch on ballads like “Not Watching” and the mid-tempo “Scandalized”. “Re-Entry”, “My Right Foot” and the racy, mysterious “Harlem Nocturne” typify the solid offerings on Brain Scan.
