O’s Notes: Cincinnati based jazz pianist and music professor Phil DeGreg was a Fulbright Scholar in Brazil during 2008 and strengthened his Samba groove while he was there. Brazilian People is his latest release, a contemporary Latin jazz album that has a refreshing bossa nova feel on tunes like “A Yankee In Brazil” and a more funky samba vibe on “Fresh Biscuits”. Co-producer Kim Pensyl (t, flugelhorn), Rusty Burge (vibes), Aaron Jacobs (b) and John Taylor (d, perc) are all up to the task helping DeGreg deliver a winning session.
