O’s Notes: It’s a good thing when a modern day artist pays homage to a frequently overlooked jazz legend. It’s a great thing when the artists in question are Terell Stafford and the legendary Lee Morgan. Stafford takes on the challenge of recreating the work of a masterful trumpeter and comes up with roses! BrotherLee Love follows another Stafford tribute (to Strayhorn). We think he’s got a good recipe for insatiable treats! Tim Warfield (sax), Bruce Barth (p), Peter Washington (b), and Dana Hall (d) return as solid support and all grab the spotlight along the way. There’s a lot to enjoy notably “Petty Larceny”, “Mr. Kenyatta” and “Speedball”. Morgan was a serious contender and Stafford casts him in“a great light.
