O’s Notes: Jose’s core band is a quintet but four very special guests embellish it: Pemambuco (v), Mike Marshall (mandolin), Flora McGill (v) and Harvey Wainapel (cl, sax). You can feel the jovial samba/choro beats from the opening notes and they continue through the entire set. The vocal harmonies from Flora McGill blend in seamlessly whether she’s singing or scatting. This is the music that invites you to sample the resounding beauty of Brazil – Certainly one of the year’s best!
