O’s Notes: Celestial Weather is collaboration between renowned free jazz trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith and bassist John Lindbergh. Together, they explore the limits of their instruments and their creative musical spirits. Celestial Weather is a collection of three movements. The first “Malachi Favors Maghostut” was written by Smith and for the third, Lindbergh composed “Feathers and Earth”. The core title suite is a shared work by the duo. There is no place to hide in this configuration exposing all subtleties and nuances to the listener. Tone, timber and methods are all correct leaving the listener free to embrace or reject their moods. We embraced the more peaceful selections like “Icy Fog” and the surrounding Movements.
