O’s Notes: This is perhaps Maynard’s best recording. It was made in 1974 during his peak. The music embraces all of the popular elements of the time: fusion, rock ‘n roll, and combines them with his penchant for swing. Ferguson’s signature sound on trumpet is unmistakable, high pitched and electrifying! He is backed by a full brass section, each of who is also a capable soloist. They play eight strong songs including the opening title track, “Gospel John”, “La Fiesta” and “Superbone Meets The Bad Man” featuring Maynard on trombone.
