O’s Notes: Pianist, composer Jon Gold, presents a fresh, relaxed set of Brazilian flavored songs on Chasing Echoes, his latest album. There are eleven original pieces. Jon employs a core band with Mauricio Zottarelli (d), Leonardo Cesar (g), and Jackson Lourengo (b). We liked “For Sergio Mendes” and the title track, both featuring vocalist Marina Marchi. Other highlights are “Blues Pé De Serra”, “Breaking The Ice” with guest bassist Marc Egan, the relaxing “Athena’s Web” featuring Leonard Cesar (g) and the fitting finale, “Friends United” with Arthur Cavalcanti (s-sax).
