O’s Notes: Russian pianist and composer Evgeny Ponomarev presents his sophomore recording as a leader and Clockwise is on time! His quartet is enhanced by several guest artists along the journey. Highlights are “Clock”, “Imminence” and “Hempfield” featuring guitarist Pavel Ilushin. Ponomarev’s piano work is excellent throughout the set with rich brass harmonization on “What’s Next” by Andrey Polovko (s-sax), Peter Vostokov (cornet) and Anton Gimazetdinov (tb, tuba).
