O’s Notes: Smooth jazz keyboard and brass master, Brian Culbertson employs an excellent cast of guest artists for Come On Up that help make it a strong effort. Steve Cole (sax) and Marcus Miller (b) combine on the funky “Midnight”, Rick Braun adds a muted trumpet, chilling on “Last Night”, Rahsaan Patterson adds soulful vocals to “What Up B” and Norman Brown’s liquid guitar keeps the title track flowing. Ricky Peterson (B3) shows up on a cool cover of EWF’s Serpentine Fire to round out this fresh set.
