O’s Notes: Eugenie Comes Out Swinging following her well received 2013 debut Black Lace Blue Tears. Her second act is as good as the first again with mostly original tunes and three fresh covers. She also kept most of the band but brings D’Vonne Lewis (d), Jay Thomas (sax, t) and percussionist Ernesto Pediangco to join arranger Bill Anschell (p), Clipper Anderson (b) and Michael Powers (g). Jones’ Seattle-based crew delivers a convincing, contemporary set that has a little samba, a taste of R&B, pop and classic jazz ballads.
