O’s Notes: Saxophonist Joshua Redman was born of the legendary Dewey Redman (sax) and dancer Renee Shedroff. He had nowhere to go but up musically and he’s delivered on that dream. But he also got a fine education at Harvard, electing to defer law school at Yale while joining a few friends from Berklee in New York to play jazz for a year. After winning the Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition the year deferral became a career and Joshua has received numerous accolades since. Come What May is a series of thought-provoking ballads composed by Redman. He reunites a quartet with pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Gregory Hutchinson. Their last recording together was Passage of Time in 2001 but they’ve toured together over the past several years. It’s a cohesive unit and it’s reflected in the strong performance.
