O’s Notes: Dominican percussionist Junior Santos has resided in Toronto for over 20 years where he has established himself as a key contributor on the Latin jazz scene. Conpambiche is his debut as a leader with mostly original music, a lively Latin-fusion with Afro-Dominican beats. There are also Afro-Cuban rhythms courtesy of the Cuban pianists. We enjoyed “Pri Pri”, “Jari’s”, “Sayen”, and “Tambora Blues” in a set that is easy to embrace.
