O’s Notes: Crossing The Passes is another adventurous free jazz set from Rich Halley (sax, perc) inspired by his hiking trip across the Rockies with his son. He performs with his usual team Michael Vlatkovich (tb, perc), Clyde Reed (b) and Carson Halley (d). The music is all-original by Halley with four selections composed by the quartet. They seek to tell a story and maintain that structure while changing meters and pace throughout the set with generous amounts of improvisation. They are as free as the mountain passages.
