O’s Notes: Trumpeter, composer and bandleader John Daversa leads a quintet for Cuarantena: With Family At Home. Gonzalo Rubalcaba (p), Dafnis Prieto (d), Sammy Figueroa (perc) and Carlo Rosa (b) join him. The title says it all, as more of us have been redirected during the pandemic to reflect, and focus on our core familial units. So Daversa stayed local with a Miami-based team of internationally acclaimed musicians. They play with a bolero style that melds with the localized predicament. Several of the selections reach back to remember parents, and forward for children, and even pets, “Puppitas”! The resulting rich sounds are more than appreciable and one of the few blessings of our crisis.
