O’s Notes: Joe can cook, sizzle and simmer and he does all of this on Cup O’ Joe. His partners are George Colligan (p), Peter Washington (b), Neal Smith (d) and Renato Thoms (perc). They play a combination of originals and freshly arranged covers. Joe jazzed up the Isley’s “Who’s The Lady” with a shot of whiskey in the java. His solo version of “Round Midnight” with an acoustic guitar freshens that standard. Next Joe plays Benson’s “Myna Bird Blues” straight up showing his chops. This versatility leads to a session that is easy to appreciate and enjoy all the way through.
