O’s Notes: Pianist Mark Moultrup arranged and produced this session. He leads a quartet with Rodney Whitaker (b), George Fludas (d) and John Wojciechowski (sax, fl). The program is a combination of modern jazz, some Latin and bebop. Most of the songs are Moultrup originals. Mark sings on almost half of the tunes notably on “Corcovado”, “What About” and the bouncy “Avant Garlic”. “Good Will in the Wind” has a swinging cool groove anchored by a solid bass line from Whitaker and percussion from guest artist Ernie Adams. We also enjoyed “of a Dream” with Kurt Sweitz on acro bass. Moultrup is a fresh voice on the jazz scene.
