O’s Notes: This collection of contemporary sounds features some of the best artists on the scene. Roy Hargrove opens it up with a funky mix of “All I Need”. He’s followed by Gerald Albright’s calypso twist on “Hey Young World”. The funk includes Jeff Lorber’s “Can I Get AÉ”, Rick Braun with “Ghetto Jam” and Dwight Sills’ “Doin’ It”. Hubert Laws chills us a bit with “Bring The Pain” and Scott Mayo wraps the set with the passionate “Give It Up”. And there is more! This is a can’t-miss CD for contemporary jazz fans.
