O’s Notes: Pianist Rodney Thompson is out to Define Smooth with eleven original compositions. While Thompson uses electronic keyboards for a large chunk for the music he is wise to employ drummer Lumark Gulley for most of the set. Lumark’s punctuations on the changes help set this apart from run of the mill elevator music. Quamon Folwer adds sax on a few tunes as well notably “Definition of Smooth”. Rodney’s goal: even consistency, gentle motion with no obstructions. Our assessment: mission accomplished!
