O’s Notes: Trombonist Steve Turre has been performing as a leader since 1986! If you haven’t seen one of his live shows you’re missing out on one o the best jazz entertainers in the business. He has countless strong recordings and this is no exception. He starts out by employing outstanding musicians: Russell Malone (g), Larry Willis (p), Billy Harper (sax), Cocoran Holt (b) and Dion Parson (d). They play spirited bop on “Blackfoot” and warm ballads like “Speak To Me Love, Speak To Me Of Truth”. We enjoyed the syncopated African beats on “Sunála Nobála”. They wrap up with “Ray’s Collard Greens”, a swinging blues number that leaves us smiling.
