O’s Notes: Drummer Devin Gray revisits his 2012 release of“Dirigo Rataplan“with“Dirigo Rataplan II. The band is the same with Ellery Eskelin (sax), Dave Ballou (t) and Michael Formanek (b). This is hard bop that pushes into free jazz on “The Wire” and elsewhere on the set. Some of the best tunes feature Formanek, as on our favorite, “What We Learn From Cities”.
