O’s Notes: Saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi follows up his“Spotlight On Standards (3/3) with Dog Star. The polished Boston musician has successfully crafted his style with elements of many jazz sax greats. Jerry gets passionate on “Love Stream” before he takes flight on “Report-Pa-int” with a Rollins-like, hard bop feel. His band is a quintet with Phil Grenadier (t), Carl Winther (p), Johnny Aman (b) and Anders Mogensen (d). All eight selections are originals including two composed by Winther. This is a fine session.
