O’s Notes: Brian Bromberg is one of the hottest bass players on the jazz scene today. He teams up with Jeff Lorber (p), Kirk Whalum (ts), Lee Ritenour (g), George Duke (p), Boney James (ts), Rick Braun (t), Gary Meek (ts) and drummer Vince Colanta? to bring us an excellent program with a contemporary jazz bent. They open with one of Hancock’s classics, “Cantalope Island” and mix the classics with a few originals like “Leisure Suit”. Brian’s work on the piccolo bass mimics a guitar with well-articulated solos. He leads us leads us through ten songs with great brass accompaniment from his all-star cast. This will appeal to a large audience. It’s accessible without being too smooth.
