O’s Notes: This is the debut recording for Canadian Sam Broverman, a cool crooner who is a mathematician in his day job. His music is anything but calculated on Dream Maker, a tribute to Johnny Mercer. The melodies are youthful and full of passion with Sam getting support from a large ensemble rich with talented musicians. Broverman shows the poise and polish of a veteran. And at 60 years old, he’s no pup having put his music career on hold while teaching at the University of Toronto. The music yes, the music sounds wonderful especially on “Laura”, “Accentuate the Positive” and “Goody Goody”. They swing to a beat that could work all night long!
