O’s Notes: Saxophonist Cory Weeds is one of the luckiest jazz enthusiasts on the planet. He ran Cellar Jazz, a popular nightclub in Vancouver where many live recordings were produced for his label of the same name. While the club closed in 2014, the label persists. On“Dreamsville Weeds teams up with the Jeff Hamilton Trio for a jovial jaunt through eleven tunes in just over 1 hour. Drummer Jeff Hamilton’s trio includes pianist Tamir Hendelman and bassist Christof Lundy. Weeds leads most of the melodies and does so with effortless passion. The band shines across all tempos from the soothing notes of “Lady Wants To Know” to the playfully spirited “How Do You Like Them Apples”. Jeff steps up with rousing solos on “Bennissimio” and opening “Hammer’s Tones” with Hendelman and Weeds leading the melodies. This is a really swinging set!
